Volunteer Spotlight: Rachel Hauschel

Volunteer Spotlight: Rachel Hauschel

Fort Bend Family Promise has amazing volunteers who donate their time and talents to help families in need.

This month's Volunteer Spotlight is on Rachel Hauschel, who recently completed a greatly-appreciated Girl Scout Silver Project that will put smiles on the faces of many children.

While serving as an evening host and interacting with the families staying at Southminster Presbyterian Church, Rachel noticed that the games and children's activities for Family Promise guests needed some updating. The Hauschel family frequently volunteers as evening hosts and enjoys playing games with the children in the program.

Rachel decided to partner with FBFP to complete the 50-hour service project needed to earn her Girl Scout Silver Award. She collected donations of books, board games, DVD's, small toys and other interactive family activities. After collecting the items, she organized and delivered portable storage containers of games and activities to all 12 FBFP host churches. She also created a children's library at the Family Promise Day Center. She also donated two Wii video game systems with games which are a great reward for the kids on the weekend and an incentive to keep their grades up.

Thank you to Rachel and her family for all the time and effort that went into her fantastic Silver Project and for their ongoing support!
