Elizabeth Butler

Past President

Occupation, Board Tenure:

Elizabeth Picou Butler retired from a career in Information Technology in 2005. Since that time and in addition to her work with Fort Bend Family Promise, she has held Board Positions and/or volunteered with The Fort Bend Junior Service League, Houston Methodist Hospital - Sugar Land and the Houston Museum of Natural Science - Sugar Land. She has been a member of the Fort Bend Family Promise Board since 2011.

What is your favorite part of volunteering for Family Promise?

I enjoy the opportunity to work with other Board members. Most of them have been involved with Family Promise for a long time, each brings a different perspective on how best to accomplish our mission and their commitment is inspiring.

Do you have any favorite memories from your time serving Family Promise?

My favorite memory was when John Tipton presented our story to the Fort Bend Junior Service League members at their meeting in 2013. At the conclusion of his remarks, he took questions from the group and it was so heart-warming to see women from all over the county stand up and say that they knew about and supported our program.

Do you belong to a congregation or are you an unaffiliated volunteer?

I am an active member of St. Laurence Catholic Church; one of the area churches that support Fort Bend Family Promise on a monthly basis.

Do you have any kids and/or pets?

My husband, Phillip, and I have two grown children, Lauren and Jordan and two pet pomeranians; Maddie and Chrissi.

From looking at you, no one would guess that…..

I grew up in a really small town. We had one traffic light and one convenience store. I love my hometown, but am grateful for all the opportunities moving to Houston and afforded me and my family. I'm a "big city" girl now.

Favorite place to eat:

I love food so it's impossible to choose a single restaurant . . . especially given that there are so many wonderful choices in our area. If I could only choose one thing to eat for the rest of my life it would be bread and cheese … with wine, of course.

What would you tell people who are considering helping Fort Bend Family Promise?

Do it!
